“PARTISAN SOURCE”
PRIME MINISTER ON SAMOA MESSAGE CONDITIONS NOW QUIET Press Association Press Association WELLINGTON, Today. Sir Joseph "Ward has received the following radio from Mr. Hall Skelton at Samoa: “The Administrator is censoring every message to the Press in New Zealand regarding the shocking affair here last Saturday. I have radioed to the Press Association demanding its intervention. The Europeans have held a mass public meeting and grave charges are pending. The official news as reported already sent is incorrect on essential facts.” Sir Joseph Ward, commenting, says the message emanated from a partisan source and must be weighed accordingly. He had no comment to make at present. In the face of many rumours circulating among the public, he was relieved to know that, since the first disturbances, when a loss of life occurred, there had been no further demonstration in Samoa, and conditions at present are absolutely quiet. The sending of H.M.S. Dunedin to Suva was purely a precautionary measure.
