HANDICAP TENNIS

SEMI-FINAL OF COMBINED DOUBLES In bright sunshine the semi-finals of the combined doubles, one of the events of the Auckland Lawn Tennis Association’s handicap tournament, postponed from last week, was played on the Stanley Street courts this afternoon. Miss Wigmore and Harris met Miss Newton and Hayr in an exceptionally keen and hard-fought contest. Both men of the pairs played many skilful shots at nets, while Miss Newton drove accurately for the corners, though she was not playing steadily in the first set. The first set went to Miss Wigmore and Harris at 7 —5, but their opponents equalised by taking the second set at 6—3.
