DARGAVILLE NEWS
Owing to the inclemency of the weather, a number of Dargaville motorists who visited Auckland for the holidays were unable to return by car to Dargaville during the past few days. Many motored as far as Helensville and shipped their cars for the balance of the journey. One man who risked the through journey by car left Auckland on Friday morning and could not get further than "VVellsford by the evening. He continued the journey the following morning by train to Maungaturoto, and, after a trying journey, reached here late in the evening. Mr. James Sanders, of Dargaville, who is employed at Matiere, has had the good fortune to win £2,500 in an Australian sweep. With a friend, lie jointly held the winning ticket on the horse Nadean which won the Port Adelaide Cup. Packed to capacity, the fairly spacious hall at Chase’s Beach, near Dargaville, was the scene of gaiety on New Year’s night, when the annual dance was held. Miss Massey and Dr. Fossey won the Monte Carlo dance, Miss I. West and Mr. M. Izzard the spot waltz, and Mrs. Delich and Mr. T. Bennett the o waltzing competition. Campers " from Bayly’s, Ma.ule’s and Glink’s Gorges were represented among the \dsitors. Mr. V. Izzard was the master of ceremonies.
