ELDERLY WOMAN KILLED
STRUCK BY MOTOR-CAR AFTER STEPPING FROM TRAM ACCIDENT AT PONSONBY Severe internal injuries, which proved fatal, were received by Mrs. Josephine Clarke, aged 57, of 66 Ardmore Road, Ponsonby, as the result of being struck by a motor-car after alighting from a tramcar in Jervol3 Road, Ponsonby, yesterday afternoon. The injured woman was removed to nearby premises, and after treatment conveyed to the Auckland Hospital, where she died an hour and ahalf after admission. The accident occurred at the Hamilton Road tram stop, where Mrs. Clarke, after stepping from a tram proceeding to Herne Bay. was struck by a motor-car driven by Mr. M. Wright. An inquest was opened before Mr. F. K. Hunt. S.M., coroner, this morning, when Mr. Irving Clarke, a wholesale grocer, identified the body as that of his wife, Josephine Clarke. The inquest was adjourned sine die.
