PRETTY' HAND-PAINTED WEDDING GOWN MARTIN—PALMER The wedding was celebrated at St. Matthew’s Church on Wednesday evening, January 1, of Miss Evelyn Palmer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Palmer, to Mr. Alfred Martin, youngest son of Lieuten-ant-Commander A. H. Martin, R.N., and Mrs. Martin. Canon Grant Cowen officiated. away by her brother, Mr. J. W. Palmer, the bride wore a lovely frock of ivory georgette, hand-painted in delicate pastel shades, with a stencilling of silver. The skirt was full i from a tight-fitting corsage, and dipped to ankle length at the back. A large bow of ivory tulle was worn on the hip. The beautiful veil of ivory silk net was edged with wide lace, worn in cap style w'ith clusters of orange bios- I som at the ears, and falling in a graceful train embroidered with orange blossoms in true lovers’ knot design, ; A sheaf of madonna lilies tied with wide silk streamers was carried. In attendance was Miss May Palmer, the bride’s sister, who wore a charm- j ing frock of pale lemon georgette, the j skirts having a wide frilled flare. With this was worn a picture hat of guipure lace and silk straw, with flowers in a pastel mauve shade. A bouquet of carnations and roses to tone was carried. Two little flower girls, Valerie and Alison Martin, were wearing delightful early Victorian frocks of powder blue taffeta shot with silver, with black \ bows of true lovers’ knots and rosebuds. They were carrying Victorian posies to tone with their frocks. | Mr. W. Hallet performed the duties of best man, Mr. Philpot presiding at 1 the organ. * The reception was held later at the Domain Kiosk, where the bride’s i mother received her guests in a frock j of black satin with an over-dress of ! lace and georgette. A bangkok hat with a black and white osprey was also worn. Mrs. Martin was wearing a navy blue georgette frock trimmed with silk lace, and wore a hat of tagel straw with a navy and beige osprey. Musical items were given during the reception, a dance being held later. ENGAGEMENTS The engagement is announced of Daisy, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Henderson, of Elmwood, Winnipeg, to Mr. Jim Scott, late of Te Aroha, now of Canada. * * * The engagement is announced of Sidney James, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. S. J. Foster, of Cambridge, to Elsie Irene Atkinson, eldest daughter of Mr. and the late Mrs. R. Atkinson, of "Ilton,” Pukekura, Cambridge. * * * Mr. and Mrs. K. Borman, of Rototuna, Hamilton, announce the engagement of their youngest daughter, Elfrida Mary (Winnie), to John, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. N. Waterhouse, of “Rylestone,” Te Kauwhata. The engagement is announced of Rona Jeanne, third daughter of the late Mr. W. J. Thewartha and Mrs. E. I. Paulsen, of Elvehoj, Great North Road, Avondale, to Kenneth Scott, youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. J. Graham, of Tenterned, West Road, Pukekohe.

The engagement is announced of Jessie Louise, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. D. Rollett, of Chez Nous, Waihi Beach, late of Cora Lynn, Matamata, to Leonard James Dawson, of Whakatane, third son of Mr. and Mrs. S. Dawson, of Warkworth.
