Confidence Men Reap £34,000!
Scotland Yard was recently informed of the perpetration in London of one of the most amazing confidence tricks of recent years. The victim lost £34,000. At one time confidence tricksters found ready victims hy telling stories of large fortunes which had heen left to them, but the latest victim has been duped by three men, who explained how big fortunes could be made by speculation on the Stock Exchange. The victim was met in the West End, and for some time the three confederates, to gain his confidence, purported to part w r ith large sums of money, which they told him they had gained as the result of their speculations. The big haul was made by the men after a consultation with their victim in a West End Hotel. The three men spoke with so much confidence about their scheme that their victim di>d not realise he was being robbed. A strange feature of the man’s complaint was that he was able to remember only two of the names given to him by the confederates. One said his name w r as Miller, and the other gave his name as James McDonald. Both were middle-aged men of medium height.
