FIRE AT WHANGAREI
FINANCE COMPANY’S OFFICE DAMAGED CATERERS ALSO AFFECTED From Our Own Correspondent WHANGAREI, Today. Fire broke out early this morning in a large building in Cameron Street owned by Mr. John Schiscka. Auckland, and occupied by A. E. Lacey’a Loan and Finance Company, with several smaller offices on the too floor. Wallace and Company, grocers, and F. Crosby, milliner, occupied the ground floor. Lacey's office was completely destroyed and the rear portion of the dining-rooms, until yesterday occupied by Manson, caterers, were extensively damaged. Water damaged hundreds of pounds worth of Crosby’s stock, but the grocery business suffered only to the extent of a few cases of goods. It is believed the fire originated in Lacey’s office and when the brigade called at 2.15 a.m. the fire had a strong hold. The estimated cost of renovating is about £I,OOO. The building was insured, but the amount is not available.
