Good Wickets Tomorrow
FOURTH SUBURBAN MATCHES Ellerslie's Big Handicap WICKETS at the Domain should be in good condition tomorrow, benefited by a fortnight’s spell, when the Suburban Cricket Association’s competitions will be concluded. The finish of the fourth series of games started two weeks ago promises some excitement, particularly the chief contest between the level-pegging competition leaders, Green Lane and Ellerslie.
Seventy-four runs ahead, and with two wickets Mill to fall, Green Lane has a strong claim to retain its position at the top of the competition ladder. To draw, Ellerslie will require to run up an exceptionally big score in a remarkably short time in the second innings, and then dismiss Green Lane—a task that will be possible with only exceptionally good luck. With a substantial score built tip, Harbour Board’s prospects of gaining a two-point win over Wesleyan Young Men’s Institute are distinctly bright. True, Institute has started in good style; but it is doubtful once the first four and best wickets drop if the tail can “wag.’* Albion has made a promising start in batting against Ponsonby, whose batsmen collapsed in the first innings. The new team has a fighting chance of securing & narrow win if the opening wickets, Viscoe and Gedye, continue in the same solid fashion of a fortnight ago. MYERS CUP CRICKET OTAHUHU WORKSHOPS WIN BY AN INNINGS CLEVERLEY’S GREAT BOWLING Thanks chiefly to the fast bowling of Cleverley, Otahuhu Railway Workshops had no difficulty in retaining the Myers Cup against Hillside, Dunedin, in the cricket match at the Domain 3'esterday. Stehr and Elliott gave the Otahuhu team a great start, and Cleverley completed the task with the ball, taking eight wickets for 11 runs in the first innings and four for 19 in the second.
