PLAZA
“THE DRAKE CASE” Gladys Brockwell, one of the screen’s greatest emotional actresses; Forrest Stanley, legitimate stage and film star, and Robert Frazer, have the leading roles in “The Drake Case.” sensational all-talking murder trial courtroom picture, which opens today at the Plaza Theatre. Miss Brockwell is the woman accused of murder; Stanley is the prosecuting district attorney, and Frazer is the lawyer for the defence. Supporting Miss Brockwell, Stanley and Frazer are other notable players, including James Crane, Doris Lloyd, Bill Thorne, Eddie Hearn. Tommy Dugan, Byron Douglas, Francis Ford, Henry Barrows, Amber Norman and Barbara Leonard. The story of “The Drake Case” concerns a woman accused of murder who refuses to say a word in her own defence, although she flatly denies having committed the crime. This attitude throws a burden upon her lawyer and his method of extricating her and himself from a seemingly impossible position is the surprise and thrill of the picture. Forrest Stanley has appeared with such famous actresses as Margaret Illington, Constance Collier, Jane Cowl, Crystal Herne, Mary Bolan, Leonore TJlric, Anna Held and Marjorie Rambeau. Frazer has appeared with Mae Murray, Pola Negri and many others. James Crane is the former husband of Alice Brady, stage and screen star, and is well known as a legitimate stage and film player.
An exceptionally fine programme of short talking and singing featurettes will also be presented this evening.
