VALUES SIMILAR TO LATE RATES GOOD DEMAND APPARENT .Scarcely any change on values ruling a fortnight ago was reported at the first Westfield fat stock sale for the New Year, conducted today. Alfred Buckland and Sons, Limited, reported the penning of 359 head of cattle, comprising 240 steers and 117 cows and heifers principally. There wero good quality lines offering and a steady demand was apparent. Generally, the values were much the same as those obtained at the previous sale. There was a good attendance of buyers. Quotations included: Extra choice ox beef. £ 2 2s a 1001 b; choice and prime ox beef, .El 19s to €2 Is; other ox beef, £1 17s to £1 18s 6d; prime young cow and heifer beef, £1 14s to £1 17s 6d; ordinary, £1 10s to £1 13s. Extra heavy prime steers ranged in price from £l6 5s to £l7 ss; heavy prime steers, £ls to £l6 2s 6d; lighter prime steers, £l3 15s to £l4 17s 6d; light prime, £l2 10s to £l3 12s 6d; small and unfinished steers, .£lO 10s to £l2 7s 6d; extra heavy prime young cows and heifers, £lO 15s to £l2: heavy prime young cows and heifers, £ 9 to £lO 10s; light prime young cows and heifers, £7 ]ss to £S 17s 6d; other killable cows, £5 10s to £7 12s 6d. LAMB IN LONDON A cabled report to Dalgel;y and Company, Limited, from London on January 2 said new season’s New Zealand lamb, prime, was selling at 101 d and lid a' lb. Seconds were being cleared at 91d and lOd. The demand was limited. Frozen meat was unchanged in other lines.. BUTTER AND CHEESE A cablegram from London on January 2 to Amalgamated Dairies, Limited, stated: —Butter: Finest at 160 s. Market again weak and depressed. Danish butter slumped to 170 s f.0.b., from 1795. Cheese: White, S7s, steady. Coloured, Sss, slow. A report on January 2 to Dalgety and Company, Limited, from its London house stated: Samuel Page and Son
report a slow butter market. Finest New Zealand salted, 156 sto 160 s; Danish, 176 s to 178 s; finest Australian salted, 152 s to 1545; Australian G.A.Q., 148 s to 150 s. Cheese: Market slow.
