CRUISE IN THE NORTH SOUTHERN VISIT LATER The sloops of the New Zealand Division of the Royal Navy, H.M.S. Laburnum and H.M.S. Veronica, are to leave on a cruise of Northern waters at 3.30 this afternoon, and on a cruise of Southern waters on February 4. Owing to the arrival at Wellington ■ a March of the new Governor-Gen-eral, Lord Bledisloe, when the warships will have to be in the Capital City, they are making their Northern cruise earlier this year than usual. The Laburnum’s itinerary is as follows: Leave Auckland, January 3; arrive Russell, January 4; leave Russell. January 13; arrive Auckland, January 14; leave Auckland, January J 7; arrive Hauraki Gulf and Kawau, January 17; leave Hauraki Gulf January 25; arrive Auckland, January 25; leave Auckland, February 4; arrive jfew Plymouth, February 6; leave New Plymouth, February 12; arrive Wanganui, February 13; leave Wanganui, February 20; arrive Lyttelton, February 21; leave Lyttelton, March 8; arrive Oamaru, March 8; leave Oamaru, March 13; arrive Dunedin, March 13; leave Dunedin, March 17; arrive Napier, March 19; leave Napier, March 26; arrive Wellington, March 27; leave Wellington, April 25; arrive .Auckland, April 28. During the period in the Hauraki Gulf, the Laburnum will go through exercises with the Veronica and H.M.S. Dunedin, and will be inspected by Commodore G. Blake, commodore commanding the New Zealand station Coaling operations will be carried out at Auckland before sailing for the South, and again at Lyttelton, where she may be required for transporting troops to Timaru. At Wellington the sloop will coal, and the crew will undergo a musketry course at Trezitham. In Auckland she will dock and refit. VERONICA’S MOVEMENTS

The Veronica’s movements are as follow: Leave Auckland, January 3; arrive Whangaroa, January 4; leave Whar.garoa, January 13; arrive Auckland, January 14; leave Auckland, January 17; arrive Hauraki Gulf, Janimry 17; leave Hauraki Gulf, January 25; arrive Auckland, January 25; Dave Auckland, February 4; arrive "auranga, February 5; leave Tauranga, February 9; arrive Westport, February 13; leave Westport, February 17; arrive Greymouth, February 17; leave Greymouth, February'2o; arrive Milford Sound, February 21; leave Milford Sound, February 21; arrive Dusky Sound, February 22; leave Dusky Sound, February 22; ’ arrive Lyttelton, February 25; leave Lyttelton, March 12; arrive Timaru, March 13; leave Timaru, March 20; arrive Ivaikoura, March 21; leave Kaikoura, March 28; arrive Wellington, March 29; leave Wellington, April 25; arrive Auckland, April 28. After exercises and inspection in the Hauraki Gulf, the Veronica will coal at Auckland, and again at Westport. In case of bad weather on tlie West Coast, the itinerary from Greymouth to Dusky Sound will be cancelled. and the sloop will proceed to Dunedin on February 20, leaving there five clays later for Lyttelton, where she will stay until March 12. At Lyttelton she will undergo exercises, and will coal. If the weather necessitates, she will go to Picton Instead of Kaikoura. There will be a musketry course at Trentham, and on the passage back to Auckland she will engage in throw-off firing practice with the Laburnum, and in a three-fifths power trial. At Auckland she will dock and prepare for an Island cruise. The Whakakura’s programme for the training of Royal Naval volunteer reserves is as follows: —January 6, leave Auckland for Dunedin; January 13, arrive Dunedin; January 18, embark first section: January 25, disembark first section, and embark second section: February 1, disembark second section, and remain in harbour; February 8, embark third section; February 15, disembark third section, and proceed to Lyttelton; February 22, embark first section; March 1, disembark first section, and embark second section; March 8, disembark second section, and remain in harbour; March 15, embark third section; March 22, disembark third section, and proceed to Wellington; March 29, embark first section; April 5, disembark first section, and embark second section; April 12, disembark second section, and remain in harbour; April 26, embark third section; May 3, disembark third section, and embark fourth section; May 10, disembark fourth section, and embark fifth section; May 17, disembark fifth section, and proceed to Auckland as convenient.
