SODOM DISCOVERED
BIBLICAL CITY REACHED BY EXCAVATORS ADVANCED CIVILISATION JERUSALEM, Tuesday. Excavations by the Pontifical Biblical Institute have resulted in the discovery of the site of Sodom, one of the Cities of the Plain” mentioned m Genesis. The remains are situated on the eastern plain of the River Jordan, about five miles north of the Dead Sea. They contain pottery and other articles, showing that the city was built in the early bronze age and is therefore, more ancient than Jericho. But tlie inhabitants were possessed, of an advanced type of civilisation. The excavations prove that the city was destroyed by a great fire, and had been uninhabited since then.
