Bowlers Extend Warm Welcome to Canadians

A ROUSING RECEPTION MATCHES IN CITY TODAY With flags aflutter and to the martial strains of Scottish pipe music, West Enc. Bowling Club gave a royal welcome :o the Canadian bowlers this morning. To the tune of a rousing pibroch the visiting party marched on to the green, to receive a thunderous welcome from the assembled bowlers. Mr. Jack W. Hardley, dean of New Zealand bowling presidents and veteran touring manager, gave a stirring address on behalf of the New Zealand Bowling Association. He was supported by Messrs. Sid Coldicutt and Walter Hardley, presidents of the Auckland Centre and West End Club respectively, who warmly welcomed tho touring party. Dr. W. Krupp ably responded. The formal welcome over, matches were commenced between the visitors and teams drawn from the Auckland Centre’s district, it being a happy thought on the part of the centre executive to make the first matches in Auckland as widely representative as possible. In the afternoon the Canadians visited the Carlton green, where another enthusiastic welcome was accorded the visitors by Mr. A. Coutts, president, on behalf of the club. In addition to today’s matches, the following programme has been arranged for the visitors: Tomorrow.—9 a.m., at Epsom Club; 2 p.m., at Remuera Club. Saturday.—Morning free; 2 p.m., at Auckland Club; welcomes by tho president, Mr. E. A. Craig and the Mayor, Mr. G. Baildon. Test match, Auckland v. Canada, 2.15 p.m., game against Auckland Club; 7.45 p.m., bowlers’ evening at Scots Hall. Sunday.—Guests of New Zealand bowlers who toured Canada, 1928. Monday.—Depart by train for Hamilton. The final aggregate scores for the morning's play at West End were;— Auckland 126, Canada 102.
