AUSTRALIA’S LEAN YEAR
INDUSTRIAL UPSETS AND LOWER PRICES NEWSPAPER’S PREDICTION Reed. 9.5 a.m. SYDNEY, Today. According to the "Sydney Morning Herald,” the year just closed has been a lean one in Australia. This condition was brought about by a combination of adverse circumstances, notably lower prices for pi-imary products, droughts, intense industrial disturbances, and a reduction in overseas capital being trusted Australia for investments. Profits of companies have also been generally lower, and in some cases heavy losses have been reported. The “Herald” predicts another lean year, owing to the fact that the deflation has simply been postponed by the high price of wool, and by the great amount of money borrowed in the markets of the world.
