THREE BATHERS RESCUED FROM SURF SAVED AFTER STRUGGLE Special to THE SUN KAITAIA, Monday. Great courage on the part of an experienced swimmer, Mr. A, W. Adams, of the Bank of Australasia, Kaitaia, resulted in three bathers being saved from drowning in the surf at Scott’s Point, Ninety Mile Beach, on Boxing Day. / A party consisting of Air. W. Berridge, manager of the Bank of Australasia, Kaitaia; Air. A. W. Adams, of the clerical staff of the bank; Mr. D. Buckle, a member of the Mangonui County Council staff, and Air. Cavaye. accountant at the Bank of Australasia, Mangonui, went in surf-bathing. Mr. Buckle went out as far as the last breaker and Mr. Cavaye, who saw ■that he was getting in a dangerous position, called out, but Mr. Buckle did not hear. Mr. Cavaye then went to his assistance and also got into difficulties in the undertow. Mr. Berridge went to Mr. Cavaye’s assistance, but also got into trouble and could not make headway toward the shore.

Mr. Adams, who had just entered the water and who is a powerful and experienced swimmer, went to Mr. Buckle, and after a great struggle got him ashore, where he fell down exhausted. Mr. Adams again entered the water to rescue Messrs. Cavaye and Berridge. With the assistance of Mr. Berridge he got Air. Cavaye ashore in the last stages of exhaustion.
