SPARKLING “WHOOPEE”
BRIGHT SHOW AT HIS MAJESTY’S Colourful in brilliant costuming, haunting melodies and clever dancing, the musical comedy “Whoopee” delighted another large audience at His Majesty’s Theatre last evening. A delightfully entertaining production, it contains many charming musical numbers and brilliant dancing performances in which the Ivendalls are phenomenally successful. The present production is to be staged until Friday and a special matinee performance will be given tomorrow afternoon. The company will revive the brilliant comic opera “Lilac Time,” one of the most successful musical plays staced during the past decade, on Saturday. Miss Lilian Crisp has all the attributes for a charming portrayal of the role of Lilly, and the music has been specially written to suit her charming soprano voice. Mr. Don Nicol, who achieved marked popularity in “Whoopee,” will play the whimsical Mr. Veite. Special interest will centre in the reappearance of Mr. John Ralston, in the role of Schubert, which he created in the original production when it was first presented in Auckland. A limited number of performances of “Lilac Time” are to be staged.
