NEW LOUNGE-CARS

FIRST RUN YESTERDAY The new lounge cars introduced by the Railways Department were put into service for the first time yesterday, one being included in each of the two Main Trunk Daylight Limited expresses. The carriages were rec.ently converted at the Otaliuhu workshops, and each one contains 16 comfortable and fully-upholstered movable armchairs and two couches. The floors are thickly carpeted" and blue curtains are hung on the windows. The carriages are a distinct innovation in New Zealand railway travel and will add materially to the comfort and conveniences of passengers.
