\\ ith the wet Christmas week, the going at tho various centres tomorrow. New Year’s Day. promises to be easy, and therefore there should be good lields everywhere, for easy turf enables the majority of horses to stand up to the strenuous holiday campaign mueli better than on a concrete track. The most important fixture tomor-

row is, of course, the Auckland meeting at Ellerslie, but interest will also be evinced in four other North Island fixtures to be held tomorrow and on Thursday. These are the Marton, Stratford, Wairarapa and Hawke's Bay meetings. “Early Bird’s” necessarily brief summings-up for these four gatherings are given below:
