FAIR DEALING

NEW ZEALAND FIRMS HELD IN HIGH REGARD TRIBUTE FROM CANADA New Zealand firms which trade with Canada are noted for their fair dealing and the high quality of their produce. This compliment is paid bv Mr. H. 1.. E. Priestman, who arrived by tile Aorangi yesterday afternoon to take up his appointment as assistant Canadian Trade Commissioner in New Zealand in place of Mr. P. Sykes, who left some time ago for China. Reciprocal trade between New Zealand and Canada has increased largely during the past few years, Mr. Priestman says, and with the appointment of Mr. J. W. Collins to the position of New Zealand Trade Commissioner in Canada, trade between the two countries will be still further increased. Canadian importers were most gratified when the appointment was made. Before leaving Canada Mi-. Priestman spent four months touring the Dominion and visiting manufacturers and exporters who were interested in trade with New Zealand. All of them were very keen to do what they could, as they valued their New Zealand business very highly and appreciated the high standard of the New Zealand firms with which they traded. Since 192 S Canada has enjoyed an era of prosperity, says Mr. Priestman. New peaks in production have been reached and foreign trade has increased vastly. Mr. Priestiiian is of the opinion that New Zealand could be advertised more widely in Canada and he thinks that the appointment of a Trade Commissioner is one of the best advertisements the Dominion could have. People in Canada, as elsewhere, are developing more and more the spirit to travel. Travel clubs are doing a great deal to cultivate this habit. “Women organise them and at their club meetings they discuss various countries of the w-orld. People associated with those countries are informed and often attend the meetings to give any information which is desired. Thus the desire to travel and see other parts of the world is increased by these talks. Mr. Priestman pays a tribute to New Zealand newspapers, which he says are most informative and pay more attention to foreign affairs than many publications in his own country.
