TWO YACHTS MISSING
STORMY BASS STRAIT RACE * OIMARA HAS EASY WIN Reed 11 a.m. LAUNCESTON, Today. After a gruelling struggle of 42 hours, mostly spent in a howling gale, 'be Victorian yacht Oimara won the race across Bas 3 Strait. She was followed five hours later by the Shamrock. Op to a late hour last night there "as no news of the Wanderer and Phyllis. Two other competitors, the Maysie and another starter, had to return to the western port shortly after the start. When the boats left Queenseliffe, the set was worked up by a wind of nearly cyclonic force. Both the missing vessels have auxiliary engines, and it is hoped that they will reach the Tasmanian coast today. \ Reed. 11.35 a.m. The missing Wanderer was last seen under bare poles off The Hummocks hy the navigator of the Shamrock. . The Phyllis has not been seen since . 30 on Friday night. The Wanderer has a crewi of six. The Maysie was totallv disabled -10 “lies off the heads of Port Phillips Bay. and was blown by a gale into besternport. The vessel was stripped Practically to the deck line, and the rrew was utterly exhausted after a 36 ours’ battle with the elements.
