THE SUMMER MEETING ENTRIES CLOSE ON MONDAY The next fixture to interest Aucklanders is that of the Taka puna Jockey Club, to be held on that club's course at North Shore on January 29 and February 1. A fine programme has been drawn up, and the indications are that the sport on Anniversary Day and also on the second day will be highly entertaining, with class as well as quantity in evidence. Nominations for all handicap events and final payments for the Wynyard Plate close with the secretary. Mr. F. D. McVay. at the office of the Takapuna Jockey Club on Monday next, January 6, at 5 p.m. The complete programme is as follows: , FIRST DAY—JANUARY 29 Trial Stakes, of £250 (winner- to take £200), seven furlongs. For nonwinners at time of starting. Orewa High-Weight Handicap, of £250 (winner £200), nine furlongs. For hacks and jumpers. Zealandia Handicap, of £350 (winner £275), seven furlongs. Takapuna Plate, of £SOO (first horse £575, second £l5O, third £75), one mile three furlongs 40yds. Ferry Handicap, of £250 (winner £200), seven furlongs. For horses that have not won a flat race valued £l5O to the winner, or flat races to the value of £ 400. Calliope Handicap, of £350 (winner £225), five furlongs. For two-year-olds. The second day of the Dunedin Jockey Club’s meeting was held today in fine weather and there was again a large attendance. The track was slightly slower than on the first day, but improved under the drying influence of wind and sun. The totalisator handled £23,786 for the day, compared with £15,962 on the second day last year, making the total for the meeting £45,562, compared with £38,816 last year.
