YOUNG MAN SENTENCED
SALE OF HIRE-PURCHASE GRAMOPHONE REFUND TO BE MADE From Ovr Own Correspondent HAMILTON. Today Representing that a portable gramophone in his possession was his own unencumbered property, a young man, Jas. St. Clair Williams. 24. a native of Ireland, obtained C 7 10s for it from another young man, Kenneth Wycherley. It transpired that the gramophone was bought by Williams und<=r a hirepurchase agreement from P. Miles, dealer, Te Kuiti. The price was CIO, and on the machine Williams had paid only £l. Today W.lliams pleaded guilty to obtaining £7 10s from Wycherley by falsely representing: that the gramophone was his own property. Williams said he did not know why he did it. He was not hard up. and thought he was entitled to sell the machine so long as he made the payments to Mips He supposed his action was due largely to lack of thought. Accused was sentened to three months’ impris mment. the sentence to j be suspended for three months, and to j be cancelled if £7 10s is repaid within i that time. At accused’s own request. | he was made the subject of a prohibition order,
