CHALLENGE DATES FOR WELLINGTON SEEKING A SOLUTION Fronb Our Resident Reporter WELLINGTON, Today. Prospects of the settlement of the problem created by challenges for the Wilding Shield and Nunnelley Casket being lodged for play on Wellington’s tournament dates have now opened up for the Wellington Lawn Tennis Association.
South Canterbury, who wished to dispute possession of the Nunnelley Casket for the first time, has written to Wellington stating that it fully understands the position and will challenge at a later date. Auckland, challenger for the Wilding Shield, has accepted the suggestion that this should be played for on February 21 and 22, and arrangements for these dates are to be discussed between the Auckland officials and Mr. W. B. Watson, secretary of the Wellington Lawn Tennis Association, during a visit to the North. Meantime, however. the attitude of the New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association remains to be defined. If Auckland likes to press the point it appears that Wellington may have to play on the dates named earlier.
