WILLIAM FOX PLANS NEW SYSTEM TEACHING BY PICTURES A revolution in the methods of instruction in schools by the introduction of talking films is considered possible by Mr. William Fox. As part of the anniversary celebration of his film career, he has announced plans to spend £1,800.000 in the next 25 years in efforts to institute a system of visual-oral education through such films. Mr. Fox, who is 50, explained that he proposes to obtain the best available persons to give graphic lessons, which he believes could cut school time in half, making the. teaching of the three R’s more Interesting, and giving pupils more time for play. He suggests obtaining the greatest educators to give lectures, while the less well-known but thoroughly competent instructors could handle 'routine lessons. He particularly cited geography, saying that the oral teaching couid accompany actual films of the country being studied.
As a corollary, he proposes the formation of a talking film library for .people with a special machine for home use.
