After Peltzer
Australian Runners Keen to Meet Him FAMOUS GERMAN'S VISIT Dr. Otto Peltzer, holder of the world's record lor the half-mile, run in 1.51 3-5, is due to arrive in Australia on January 4, to compete at the Australian championships, and W. Hunt tHast Sydney) and C. S. Stuart • Northern Suburbs) are eagerly awaiting the opportunity to tackle him —over his favourite distance! Both the Australians are capable
;ac'i has a long list of brilliant efforts Lo his credit (says Sydney “Sun”). Already their names are being l'rcely mentioned in connection with the 1932 Los Angeles Games. Hunt is an BSO yards runner of £ class. In an in- | terval during the J third cricket test match last year in
Sydney, he set new Australasian figures at 1.55 4-5. Incidentally, he has repeatedly “broken” two minutes for the journey. As a schoolboy Stuart recorded 1.59 3-5, capturing the 1925 “All Schools” title. Early in 1927 he got within a yard of the Olympic runner R. I>. Normftn, when the latter equalled the existing State record of 1.56 4-5. The following year Stuart gained Australasian honours —a performance which earned him a place in the Australian team for Amsterdam. Before leaving Australia Stuart was credited with 1.55 in an ■unofficial trial at Northbridge. All these facts go to show that New South Wales has men who should be able to offer serious opposition to the world-famous athlete. Incidentally, an endeavour is being made to get Peltzer over to New Zealand to match him against Jack Savidan, the Dominion’s crack mile runner and all-round distance athlete.
