THE CASH RIDERS

The members of the Auckland Cycle Club responded splendidly, considering the unfavourable circumstances, to the club’s effort to maintain the high standard set in previous races, when a classic field lined up to contest a fourlap handicap. Although not large, the muster was of a representative nature.

B y winning from scratch, J. Harcourt proved he has not lost any of his brilliancy on the track. He earned his win, indeed, for he came about 100 miles from his home town to participate in the race. It did not take him long to get up into a good position,

and once there he looked the goods. Harcourt will be a starter at the amateur club’s forthcoming carnival. On his form, it points to his being a hard proposition in any race he contests. G. Hall tried hard to bring about a sensational victory by clearing away from the bunch at the commencement of the last lap. He was unfortunate that Harcourt was so handy, otherwise he, no doubt, would have collected the big end of the purse. As it was, Hall was not troubled to gain second honours.

Another small field was to Archer’s liking. Wally had to pedal solidly at the finish, however, to squeeze into third berth once more by half a wheel from the fast-finishing Dave Fletcher. On last week’s run, Archer has improved. With more experience he will be closer to the front.

Passes have now been issued, by the club,, for training purposes, on the Western Springs Stadium. These must be produced wlien a rider wishes to train on the track . These may be procured at present from the caretaker. No person will be allowed on the circuit unless the pass is shown, the idea being to keep non-members from trespassing.

The next races will be held on Monday evening at the amateur festival. Cyclists are asked to be on hand at about i o’clock, so that all arrangements can be finalised. INb rider will be allowed to start unless properly equipped.
