THE AMATEURS

It was not thought possible during last Monday afternoon, when heavy showers fell, to hold the weekly events under the auspices of the Manukau Amateur Gyeling Club. However, with the concrete track at Western Springs, there is not much likelihood of any postponement. The senior race drew a large field, under the circumstances, as the heat was decided in a light shower. The juniors, too, were there, and gave a good one-lap exhibition.

J. Wade (scr) put up a good performance, winning rather comfortably from his co - maxker. Wade showed up in the first two laps when he made his effort to catch the field. The manner in which he scored stamps him as a rider above any in

Auckland at the present time. So far he has annexed every track race, except two, a record which speaks for itself. At motorpacing, a big future is predicted for this pedaller, as in a try-out recently he showed to good advantage. Second in the handicap was A. Mackie, also from the scratch mark. Although beaten, he put up a good performance. That he is no mean performer will be demonstrated when he makes his attack on the five-mile motor-paced record at the carnival to be held at the end of the month.

After a good tussle with Con Gainsborough, E. Cleaver put in a good finishing effort to collect third honours. Me made up his ground over the last circuit.

Arrangements are going along smoothly for the big night meeting on December 30. Riders have been assured by the officials of the club tha*t everything would be in order if they competed. With a varied programme of events to be run off, patrons will be given plenty of excitement and thrills to keep them occupied during’ the evening’s entertainment.

Members of the club are asked to be on hand at Western Springs this evening to distribute handbills relating to the meeting on December 30. A motor-paced 1 exhibition will be given by Angus Mackie and Jack Wade, for which favour the officials’ thanks are due to the management of Speedways, Ltd., in allowing a demonstration to be made.
