BIG, WELCOME PLANNED AT WHANGAREI From Our Own Correspondent Wll AN G ARE I. Wed nesday. Whangarei lias been honoured by being the first centre chosen to entertain tho Canadian bowlers and it is anxious to give tho visitors first impressions which will reflect credit on the Dominion. In co-operation with the principal local bodies, ilie North Auckland Bowling Centre has arranged a fine programme to entertain the visitors. A cable received in Whangarei today states that the visiting party will not be as large as at first reckoned. There will be 28 bowlers and nine women. Mr. J. llardley is to accompany the tourists as the r€*presentative of the New Zealand Bowling Council.
Upon their arrival in Auckland by the Rangitata, the Canadians will be met by Mr. T. 11. Steadman, secretary of the North Auckland Centre, who will escort them to Whangarei. A civic reception will take place at 4.30 p.m. next Tuesday, and after tea there will be a big function at the Whangarei greens, where the visitors will meet representatives of all northern clubs under electric light.
SPECTACULAR ENTERTAINMENT The itinerary for tho following day will combino sightseeing and sport. At eight o’clock, the party will set off for a big picnic and Maori reception at Whangaruru, which is situated on a wild and beautiful section of the East Coast. A great “kapa Maori” is in preparation, and native chiefs will welcome the palefaces from the land of the redskin. A novel thrill, which not many of the escorting party will have seen, will be provided on the way home. Several expert tree climbers will give an exhibition of their hazardous calling upon some tall kauris in Croft’s Paddock, Kaimamakau. Arriving back in town between two
