PAINTINGS ON MANUKA
WORK BY NEW ZEALAND ARTISTS LOSS IN RECENT WRECK Five paintings by New Zealand artists were lost in the wreck of the Manuka on Long Point, near the Nuggets a week ago. Three were watercolours by the late Mr. C. N. Worsley, one of the Dominion's best known water-colour artists, and the others were oil paintings by Mr. Douglas Perrett, of Dsvonport. When the Manuka was built the Dunedin agents of the shipping company ordered these five paintings, which were of lake and mountain scenery, and sent them to England to be incorporated- in the scheme of decorations for the social hall. Mr. Perrett’s pictures were of Lakes Walt i lipu and To Anau. Mr. Worsley was noted for his delicate water-colours of New Zealand lake and river scenery, and liis work is represented in all art galleries in the Dominion and in many of the homes. One of his pictures was sold to the Queen for £6OO. His widow lives in Auckland.
