NEW PROPELLER ON WAY

DE HAVILAND FIRM AIDS N.Z. FLYER FORCED DOWN IN TRIPOLI Reed. 11 a.m. LONDON, Monday. The New Zealand flyer, Mr. F. C. Chichester, who was forced down in the Tripoli marshes while trying to beat Bert Hinkler’s record flight from England to Australia, broke the propeller of his Mo-th plane and front inter-plane strut. He will need a new propeller, which De Havillands are sending through to Tripoli. This will take-nearly a fortnight. Mr. Chichester, in his detailed scheme, allowed 7 days 12J hours’ actual flying time from London to Sydney.

Mr. Chichester prepared for his flight only three weeks before he started. He pledged Mr. E. A. Jones who gave him his first lessons, to secrecy.

Apart from an extra petrol tank the only special precaution taken was the installation of a collapsible rubber boat equipped with a paddle and a sail.
