“UNJUST IMPRISONMENT”
APPEAL FOP. WELLINGTONIANS’ RELEASE
A strong protest against the continuance of the war regulations, as reflected in the recent penal punishment of four Wellington residents, was registered at a public meeting in Auckland, held under the auspices of the New Zealand Labour Party. After the large assemblage had been addressed by Messrs. R. F. Way, A. S. Richards, C. Morris, and F. Craig, the following resolution was carried unanimously:—"That this meeting of Auckland citizens, held under the auspices of the Xew Zealand Labour Party, records its strong condemnation of the recent unjust imprisonment of four citizens of Wellington for having in their possession banned literature, and appeals for their release before Christmas. We also demand the repeal of the war regulations, in view of the fact that the war has been over for 11 years, and that the regulations are not in accord with democratic principles of government.” Copies of the resolution have been telegraphed to the Acting Prime Minister, the Minister of Justice, and the secretary of the Parliamentary Labour Party.
