AMBASSADOR TO RUSSIA
SIR ESMOND OVEY VISITS M. KOLININ CREDENTIALS PRESENTED British Official Wireless Reed. Noon. RUGBY, Sunday. Sir Esmond Ovey, the recentlyappointed British Ambassador at Moscow,- presented his letters of credence to the President of the Soviet, M. Mikhail Kalinin, at the Kremlin yesterday. Notes regarding propaganda were exchanged later in the day. The Soviet Ambassador to Britain,, M. Sokolnikoff, in an official statement issued here, said there was ai sound economic and political basis for a complete renewal of diplomatic relations between Russia and Britain. This would- render stable inter-trading possible. It was a'favourable sign that Russian orders from London amounted to £3,68,000 in October and November, compared with £1,195,000 a year ago. There were still difficulties to be overcome, but British manufacturers should study Russia’s requirements in connection with electric-power stations. These would absorb £45,000,000. Russia was preparing to settle financial claims after accounting counter-claims and providing developmental and consolidatory measures to ensure the propesity of Russian industries. “We have every intention of loyally fulfilling our obligations,” said the Ambassador, “but we rely upon friendly countries to recognise the unalterable basis upon which our political system has been founded.”
