Bright Party To Celebrate Coming-of-Age
Cabaret Evening is Followed by Supper
MRS. ENDLETSBERGER ENTERTAINS FOR SISTER
Miss Violet Bennetto spent a very cheery twenty-first birthday on Saturday.
Her sister, Mrs-. T. Endletsberger, of Mount Eden, entertained a party of friends at Dixieland in the evening, and later an adjournment was made to Dr. Endletsberger’s home in Mount Eden for a birthday supper. Deep red carnations decorated the tables at Dixieland, and bonbons and novelties added to the merriment of the guests.
Pale pink sweet peas were the charming floral decorations chosen for the rooms and supper table at the private party later.
The hostess wore an ivory french beaded georgette frock, dipping at the back, and a white fur wrap. Miss Alice Bennetto had on tangerine chenille and georgette, trimmed
with black fur, and wore a wrap to match. Miss Violet Bennetto wore palest pompadour pink chiffon, with the corsage and full skirt in-set with french roulet embroidery of chiffon, tulle, and silver beads. Her wrap was of deep pink gorgette with white fur collar. AMONG THE GUESTS Mrs. .T. Parr was in a smart evening ensemble of love-in-a-mist blue lace and georgette. Mrs. P. Kinnimont wore a navy blue georgette and lace gown. Mrs. W. Smith was in lavender satin beaute, flared and frilled with a green flower at the shoulder. Mrs. PI. C. Jones had on cameo pink chiffon encrusted with silver beads. Mrs. P. Close wore a frock of saxe blue georgette with tiered skirt and cape collar. Miss Molly , Mitchelson wore a gracefully flounced frock of flowered chiffon in pastel tones. Miss Marie Jones had on an anklelength taffeta frock of vivid camellia pink, with frilled skirt. Miss Gwen Ashcroft chose shell pink georgette over silver lace, and chic hoar! coat. Miss Raye Murphy wore mauve frilled georgette and silver lace with diamente trimming. PLUNKET CARNIVAL CROWNING CEREMONY AT TURUA The Turua Plunket Society’s baby king and queen carnival, which has been running for several months with the object of raising funds for the provision of a rest-room, was brought to a close on Thursday afternoon, at a final fete in the Turua Town Hall. During the evening it was announced that the Kopuarahi candidates had topped the poll and later on they were duly crowned. The blue district (Kopuarahi) had secured votes representing £B4 18s Bd, the red district (Turua South), £7B 13s, and the white district (Turua town), £69 3s. The crowning ceremony was a simple one, due to the lack of time for preparation. The children taking part were: King, Robert Hale (on behalf of Rex Law); Queen, Marie James; Lord High Chncellor, John Durman; Lord High Chamberlain, Alex Wilson; Their Majesty’s Champion, Gordon Henry; Herald, Dora Walker; Princes and Princesses, Pat Tlirupp and Harold Sutton, of Turua South, and Ngaere Hill and Selwyn Gibson, of Turua town; Flower Girls, Fay James, Pauline Marceau, Helen Bagnall, Gwenda Loader, Shirley Jones and Gwen Clotworthy; Pages, Allison Henry, Allison Walker, Ronald Mouldey and Douglas Reid.
A great number of raffles and competitions were drawn during the evening, and a concert was given by the children of the Turua School.
