AFTER-CHURCH SERVICE

OLD MASTERS SCREENED A novel after-church service intended to appeal to both the ear and the eye and to provide a feast of beauty as well as music, was conducted by the Rev. F. A. Thomson in the Northcote Presbyterian Church *last evening. A Balopticon kindly lent by the Auckland Sunday School Union for producing art pictures in colour with excellent effect was operated and masterpiece photographs from ancient and modern masters in original colours were screened, illustrating the words of the carols and solos. Mr. A. Boswell rendered the solos “Nazareth” and “Star of Bethlehem,” while the church choir sang the following carols: “First Noel,” “Silent Night,” “Softly the Night is Sleeping,” “Glory in the Highest,” “Lovely Voices of the Sky.” This novel service attracted a large congregation, and it is intended to continue further services on the same lines.
