PAPATOETOE WATER SCHEME

OPENING CEREMONY Papatoetoe's new water supply was officially opened yesterday, the ceremony of turning on the water at the corner of Station and Wyllie Roads being performed by Miss S. McLaughlin, The chairman of the Town Board, Mr. 1. B. braytheman, who presided, reviewed the progress of the scheme. He said the reservoir, which had a capacity of 130,000 gallons, gave a pressure of 701 b to the square inch in the township, and with an increased demand the pressure would be mairilainea by building a further reservoir on Mulcock’s Hill, giving additional storage of 120,000 gallons. The cost m the first portion of the scheme was £ 26,000.

The chairman read a report by Dr. A. B. Jameson on the purity of the water. It. stated that analysis showed that the supply was entirely free from colouring matter and sediment, and had sufficient hardness to prevent corrosion of taps and piping. Mr. A. W. Hall, M.P. for Hauraki, congratulated the board on the inauguration of the supply. A gold brooch, inscribed with the date and a suitable design, was presented to Miss McLaughlin.
