Ornamental Ironwork
Visitors to the Civic Theatre will be amazed at the amount of ornamental iron work which has been incorporated into the design. For example there is a full-width iron presentation stairway from the winter garden to the stage, which is of a beautifully intricate design and certainly unique in this country. All such Iron work la the theatre’s
construction is the work of Messrs. W. Wilson, Ltd , Federal Street, Auck- [ land. They have been responsible for the suspension verandah around the building, which is all electrically- j welded iron. This verandah is easily the largest of its kind in New Zea- ; land, for it covers an area of 14.000 j square feet, with an imposing arch above the main entrance and elaborate street hangars with ornamental designs.
