REMOVING STAINS Red ink contains chemicals not found in black ink, and stains of it should have special treatment. A simple method that usually answers well is to soak the mark in ammonia and water for an hour. Then squeeze gently in milk and launder in the ordinary way if the fabric is Washable. If black ink stains are still wet, soak up as much ink as you can with blotting paper, then rub the mark with half a ripe tomato, or soak it in milk. Afterward, if the garment is washable, launder it. With old stains success is doubtful, but try rubbing well into the mark table salt moistened in lemon juice. Leave for several hours, then wash the garment. lodine, used for chest complaints and for cuts, often leaves deep, brown marks on the nighties and underwear. If the garment is silk or wool, stretch the stained part over a basin and paint it with warm water containing a little dissolved washing soda.
