SOCIAL AFTERNOON WITH PENWOMEN

FINAL MEETING FOR YEAR AN ENJOYABLE PROGRAMME A delightful social afternoon was held as a final gathering for the year of the League of New Zealand Penwomen at the club rooms yesterday afternoon, many members and friends being present. The room had been charmingly arranged with tall vases of flame-col-oured gladioli and red geraniums, with large bowls of glowing pohutukawa, a seasonable touch being given by a centre decoration of the old-time holly. Mrs. Stuart Boyd, president, received the guests wearing a graceful frock of green and navy brocaded georgette and a black hat with green tonings. Miss Bertram, convener of the Music Circle, who organised the afternoon, had arranged a most enjoyable programme, which was thoroughly appreciated by all present. Two songs were effectively given by Miss Edna Craig, and another, “Mokai River,” the words by Miss Edel Marie Jones, a member of the league, and the music by Mr. Harry Hitchcock, was interpreted well by Miss Alice Greville. Original elocutionary items were given by Mrs. Cluett, Mrs. Boswell and Mrs. Victor Macky, Mrs. Arthur Griffiths also reciting a quaint and charming Scottish poem. Afternoon tea having been served, the guests spent a happy time in pleasant reminiscences, a tinge of regret being present at the closing of a successful and enjoyable year’s activity.
