EMPRESS, NEWTON
“Wild Orchids,” Greta Garbo’s latest picture, is the chief film at the Empress Theatre, Newton.
As Lillie Sterling, Miss Garbo comes to far-off Java the wife of a white business man. Against her will and better judgment she is drawn toward the romantic Prince de Gace (Nils Asther), who has deliberately determined to win her away from her husband. When the husband discovers his wife’s inadvertent infidelity he plots a sardonic revenge. He will invite the Prince to go tiger hunting, first taking away the bullet from the Prince’s rifle. When on© of the great Javanese tigers actually springs upon De Gace, Sterling is suddenly seized by remorse; he has not the heart to go through with his revenge, and he empties the barrels of his own gun into the animal. “Lucky in Love,” an al-talking and singing production starring Morton Downey, Broadway singer, is the second feature.
