STRONG-ROOM RIFLED
CRACKSMAN VISITS STORE BURGLARY AT ELLERSLIE An expert cracksman broke Into the strongroom of the grocery depot of Hutchinson Bros., Ltd., at the corner of Great South Road and Woodbine Avenue, late last night of early this morning. A sum of money and several small
articles were stolen. ■VyORKERS were in the shop until ” a late hour last evening. All was in order when the premises were closed, and a young man who sleeps at the back of the shop heard no suspicious sounds during the night. The burglary was discovered about 6 o’clock this morning. The break was evidently the work of experts, as the heavy door of the strongroom is still on its hinges. The lock had been broken, but, apart from a little straining along one edge, there are no other signs of damage. The sound must have been well muffled to escape being heard either by the sleeper at the rear of the shop or by neighbours. Detectives were on the scene early this morning and removed a mirror surface from the rear of a showcase which had been tampered with. It is understood that fingerprints found here may do much to disclose the identity of the burglar.
The amount secured is not known, but is not believed to be considerable as it is the practice of the firm to bank takings from all depots late every afternoon.
