MINISTERIAL CHANGES
HON. J. B. DONALD TO TAKE CUSTOMS RELIEF FOR MR. TAVERNER Press Association WELLINGTON, Today. With reference to the readjustments of Ministerial portfolios consequent upon the appointment of t I Hon. T. M. Wilford to be High Com mtssioner, Sir Joseph Ward announced too ay that the Hon. W. B. Taverner had relinquished the portfolio of Cus toms, and the Governor-General pointed the Hon. J. B. Donald to assume this. Sir Joseph stated that in many respects the -work of the Customs and Commerce Departments were correlated and it was fitting that Mr. Donald, who had just recently become Minister of Industries and Commerce, should also be entrusted with the administration of the Customs Department. In giving effect to this change,” he said, “it should, of course, be understood that it was made solely in the interests of departmental convenience and also to afford some necessary relief from the heavy burden of work which, since the formation of the present Government, had been assumed by Mr. Taverner, whose administration of .the portfolio of Customs had been of real value to the country.”
