In an Old Italian Garden
LUCINA. aet. XV., ’tis written so On the worn stone, in grave simplicity Of one who walked this garden by the sea, Long years ago. Smooth is the turf, as then, unchanged the trees, In rainbowed-mist still fall the fountain’s showers; The weathered dial that told her sunlit hours, So measures these. But her soft dust is mingled with this mould, The languorous flowers draw life from her still heart, Forever of their loveliness a part, Her brief tale told! And yet, methinks, when soft i:he night v/ind stirs And shadows limn the moon’s gold witchery, Lucina walks this garden by the sea, Which once was hers. S. M. SUNLEY. Christchurch.
