Mr. Frederick J. Porter left New Zealand 21 years ago to study art in Paris. He has lived tor the past 15 years in London where he is recognised as one of the finest modern landscape painters of today. His work has been compared with that of Cezanne. TO a New Zealander In exile Christmas brings memories of happy out-of-door holidays ill the world’s finest sports ground. In fact it has inspired the following verse, which is to be forgiven as it is the only one I ever wrote: Greetings to the Auckland SUN, May you all have lots of fun. Yachting, bathing, fishing, boating; In the summer weather gloating. * * * While you're camping by the sea. Out on every sort of spree, I'll be piling on the logs. Trying hard to keep out fogs . . . For, at Christmas, we have snow Once a century or so. FREDERICK J. PORTER.
