CHESS TITLE
Championship Again Won by Dr. Alekhine BRILLIANT FRENCH PLAYER Dr. Alexander Alekhine, of Paris, France, for the second time in hisbrilli France, for the second time in his brilliant career, became the chess champion of the world, when on November 12, he drew the twenty-fifth and final game of the long contest he had with E. D. BogDljubow of Triberg, after 35 moves at the Kurhaus, Weisbaden. The final score stood at 11 victories to five in favour of Hr. Alekhine, with nine drawn. When the present champion wrested the title from Jose R. Capablanca of Havaia, at Buenos Ayres, in 1927, the score was six to three in his favour with 25 drawn. Bogoljubow, therefore, succeeded in winning a greater number of games from Dr. Alekhine than the former world’s champion had been able to do, although the Cuban’s percentage was slightly higher. The match was started at Weisbaden on September G and continued at Heidelberg, Berlin, The Hague, Rotterdam anrl Amsterdam. Dr. Alekhine said that after the expiration of reasonable time he would be prepared to defend his title against either Capablanca or Aron Nimzowitsch of Copenhagen, both of whom have expressed a desire to meet him.
Phil Scott, the British heavy* weight boxer who is looking for fights in the United States of America, was a fireman in London before he devoted ail his time to the ring. Perhaps that is why he reckons he is on the championship * ladder.
