LATE BISHOP CLEARY
DEVONPORT COUNCIL’S SYMPATHY
A motion of sympathy over the death Cleary, Homan Catholic Bishop of Auckland, was carried by the Devonport Borough Council last evening. Moving the resolution, Mr. C. M. Browne said that if one had not known the late bishop, as he did, the demonstration at the funeral ceremony would have been sufficient justification for Devonport to add its expressions of regret. Mr. J. Hislop, Deputy-Mayor, said he had known the late bishop in Dunedin and was sure the Dominion had lost a most valuable citizen, a man of wide vision and quick sympathy.
