MORRINSVILLE NOTES
Plans have been made out for three new bridges on the main Hamilton highway; also for metalling on McLaren’s and School Road West, Old Hill Road, No. 8 road and portion of the Waiorongomai-Maungakawa Road. The need for warning signs at th« cross-roads near the Tatuanui school was stressed by the school committee in a letter received by the Piuko County Council on Monday. It wa-s agreed to erect signs as requested. The danger to motorists of the running boards across bridges was demonstrated when a small closed ear crashed Into the rails of the Piako bridge and capsized. The occupants, Mr. and Mrs. J*'. A. Mitchell, of Cambridge, were not injured, but the front axle was buckled and one front wheel torn off, and a glass side panel smashed. I The car skidded on the loose metal ! on the Morrinsville side of the bridge, I and getting oft the running- boards. \ got out of control. Mrs. Mitchell, who j was driving, had the presence of mind to turn off the switch as the car S capsized. At a meeting of the Morrinsville ! Borough Council, a letter was received from the No. 2 Main Highways Council submitting proposals for grouping I counties and boroughs for the purpose i of traffic inspection. It was proposed to group together the Piako and Minamata Counties including the boroughs of Morrinsville and Te Aroha and the Matamata and Putaruru Town Boards. It was also stated that the Mataniata Town Board had a man fully engaged in traffic inspection. The Matamata. j County Council was willing to share the expense of another man with another county. Remarking that the \ council had already made adequate ! arrangements for traffic inspection, the 1 Mayor, Mr. W. McPherson moved that the question be referred to the works i Committee, and this was agreed t*».
