Bright Glow Wins Egmont Cup
KNIGHTLIKE’S SPRINT ORAZONE SCORES EASILY Special to THE SUX HAWERA, Wednesday. The Egmont Racing'Club’s summer meeting, which was held for the first time in December, instead of early in the 3 r ear, opened today in showery weather on a holding track softened by heavy rain overnight. The totalisator investments amounted to £16,812, compared with £22,357 10s at the last summer meeting held in January of this year, a decrease of £5.545 10s. The Hurdlers Royal Acre won the Hurdles with such ease that further victories for him should be recorded in the near future. He is not yet a good jumper, but goes too Well on the flat for the average hurdler. Brigadier Bill went well on the flat and lost ground at his fences. Horomea was always in the rear and was not able to hit out at all. Diana’s Lad can be looked for as an early winner, and the same applies to Bonliomme. Two and Three-Year-Olds Hunting Day made a job of the field in the Juevenile Handicap and won more easily than his two lengths’ margin indicates.. He will win again soon in similar company. Paratoo, who was third, put up a good performance, as he got away badly. Clever ran a fair race, and Isa did not stay in the soft ground. Hacks in Tokaora Fernden, looking much better than ever before, won the Tokaora Handicap very comfortably. Just So, who was almost as well backed, ran poorly and there is no doubt that the day’s performance was not her best form. She is sure to improve upon it. Callapat showed great speed, but collapsed in the straight. Statuary and Peg Black both ran good races and the latter paid a big double figure price for second. Cup Horses The soft course and the distance beat Paganelli in the Egmont Cup. Concentrate ran a fairly good Auckland ‘Cup trial. Star Stranger will be all right by Auckland Cup day, for he went a fine race and finished with a rattle right behind the placed horses. Bright Glow was seen at her best again and won easily. Seatown ran moderately, but might improve soon. So might First Acre. Merry Mint ran a really good race. The Sprinters Lady Quex lost her chance in the Flying Handicap through being caught in the starting barrier. Gold Dawn ran. her best race this season and should be hard to beat during the holidays. Cimabue and Knightlike are very well, and Haverig and Goshawk need not be discarded. Hack Cup Austerity was unlucky in the running of the Nolan Cup, and so was Dolomite. Juggle did noa stay, and Imateagirl may improve. Pompeius found the track to his liking and won decisively after having to run round the field. The Open Seven Orazone won the Whareroa Handicap partly through patient handling. Mithra could not manage the soft going. Rory Mor and Macroom should not be long. Waipapa Hacks Of those in the Waipapa Hack Handicap early likely improvers are Calamine and Marjoram, both of whom ran good races. Monaloff may do better on a drier track. An outsider who went well was Fortalice. Following are the complete results: Ohawe Hurdles, of £180; 1J miles. — 5 Royal Acre, 9.10, H. Dulieu, 1; 4 Vivo, 10.4, “H. Mills, 2; 3 Bonhomme, 9.0, A.
