CONSTABLE ARRESTED
SENSATION CAUSED IN WELLINGTON SEQUEL TO BURGLARY Press Association WELLINGTON, Today. Following the discovery of a man on the premises of C. Smith, Ltd., one night recently, a startling development is the arrest of a police constable and another man who, until a short time ago, was a member of the police. They are Hugh Robertson Stevenson, aged 27, and Wilfred Leonard Ramm, aged 29. The former was charged before Mr. E. Page, S.M., with receiving from Joseph Maurice White and Ramm clothing valued at £l2 11s 6d, knowing it had been dishonestly obtained. He was remanded, bail of £2OO being allowed. A similar remand was granted In the case of Ramm, who was charged with breaking and entering Smith’s, and stealing three pyjama coats, seven shirts, two pairs of gloves, four collars, a scarf, and nine ties, of a total value of £25. The chief detective said that till a week ago accused was a police constable. This was only one of a series of charges in which he would be involved.
