DROWNED IN WAIKATO
YOUTH CAUGHT IN RAPIDS COMPANION REACHES ROCK Special to THE SUN - PUTARURU, Wednesday. While attempting to recover a dinghy from the Waikato River, 37 miles above Arapuni yesterday. Jack Sainsbury, a Government cadet was drowned. Mr. Sainsbury was a member of a survey party which had finished work in that vicinity and was preparing to leave. He and a companion, Alan Mills saw a dinghy floating away, and dived into the river to recover it. At this point the river is very treacherous owing to strong currents and rapids, and both men were caught iu the rapids, and swept away. Mills was thrown on to a rock and was able to make the shore, but Sainsbury disappeared. The body has not been recovered. Deceased’s parents are dead, but he has a young sister, who lives at Manurewa.
