CHARGES BY ARCHBISHOP OF MALTA RELIGIOUS CONTROVERSY MALTA, Wednesday. The Prime Minister of Malta, Lord Strickland, replying to the Archbishou of Malta, denied that, the British Government had refused to support his Government’s communications to the Vatican because of their alleged indecorousness. Regarding the archbishop’s statement that the Pope had refused to receive Lord Strickland, the latter said he had never sought an interview with the Pope, although the Foreign Office had urged him to do so. He added that the Minister’s relations with tlie Apostolic delegate on his visit to Malta were most cordial. He was certain no condemnation had come from the Apostolic delegate. The aide memoire which condemned the Government was the work of partisans, who had carefully cultivated and deceived the Vatican’s envovs.
